To prevent your items from tarnishing and scratching, follow these key rules:
1. Do not put them in the dishwasher.
Chinelli glassware should not be washed in the dishwasher. High temperatures, harsh detergents, and hard water jets will immediately destroy the protective polymer varnish layer. This will cause the silver to tarnish and the Swarovski crystals to peel off.
2. Hand wash only.
• Use warm water (not hot) and a soft, liquid sponge.
• Use only mild dishwashing gels. Avoid any abrasive cleaning powders, baking soda, or hard metal scouring pads, which can scratch the finish.
3. Forget about silver cleaning products
Silver-plated tableware is typically cleaned with special pastes or solutions for silverware. However, this is not the case with Chinelli. The metal is coated with a special protective varnish that protects it from the air, preventing the silver underneath from oxidizing. Harsh silver cleaners will simply corrode this protective varnish.
4. Drying and Polishing
After washing, do not leave the tableware to air dry. Water droplets will leave a limescale residue as it dries, which will ruin the shine of crystal and metal. Immediately dry the item thoroughly with a soft microfiber or flannel towel.
5. Careful Storage
Store your champagne glasses in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and heating devices. If you're storing your glasses for an extended period, it's best to use their original Chinelli velvet or satin box.
